Consistency is Key

In last week's episode of EZ Conversations, I spoke with fertility transformation expert Sonia Ribas about the challenges many individuals and couples face when trying to conceive. Sonia shared her three-step method for helping people optimize their fertility naturally, but what struck me most was that the foundations of her work mirror many of the same principles I emphasize with my own clients in mental health.

We discussed the importance of sleep, movement, nutrition, and stress management—not simply as ways to improve fertility, but as habits that support the body and mind as a whole. Sonia also emphasized something that deserves more attention: fertility is not solely a woman's responsibility. Men play an equally important role and must also take ownership of their health and well-being throughout the journey.

As I reflected on our conversation, the theme that stayed with me wasn't fertility itself. It was consistency.

Consistency is one of those words we hear so often that it can begin to lose its meaning. We celebrate results, milestones, and achievements, but we rarely celebrate the quiet discipline required to reach them. So many of my conversations with clients involve helping them shift their attention away from immediate outcomes and back toward the daily process. Progress is rarely dramatic. More often, it is found in simply showing up, especially on the days when motivation is absent.

In the groups I facilitate, we often remind one another that the goal is not perfection—it is progress. The challenge, however, is that progress can be difficult to recognize when the only task is to keep showing up. We naturally want evidence that our efforts are working, yet many of life's most meaningful transformations happen beneath the surface long before we can see them.

That lesson was reinforced for me again this week through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I recently reached an important milestone in my own journey, but standing there, I couldn't help thinking about all the days I questioned whether I belonged, the moments I considered quitting, and the countless small practices that no one else ever saw. The milestone was not built in a single day. It was built over hundreds of ordinary days, when the only victory was returning to the mat.

The same principle applies far beyond jiu-jitsu. Whether we are strengthening our mental health, repairing a relationship, growing spiritually, building a business, raising children, or navigating fertility challenges, meaningful change is rarely the result of a single extraordinary decision. It is almost always the product of ordinary choices made consistently over time.

We often want certainty before we commit ourselves to the process. But perhaps trust works in the opposite direction. We choose the process first, and only later do we begin to see the results.

Consistency is an act of faith. It is believed that today's small decision matters, even when tomorrow's outcome remains unseen.

Keep showing up. The results may not always be immediate, but they are often already taking shape beneath the surface.

Growth demands movement. When we stop challenging ourselves, it becomes easier for fear, doubt, comfort, and distraction to take hold. An idle mind and body are easily swayed. But when we commit ourselves to the process—even imperfectly—we become more resilient, more grounded, and better prepared for whatever life asks of us next.

What one area of your life can use more consistency?
