Trusting Yourself

In last week's episode of EZ Conversations, I sat down with investigative journalist and author Will Potter. We explored his work exposing political repression, particularly how protesters, journalists, and whistleblowers can be labelled as threats for challenging powerful institutions. Alongside that, we discussed the personal cost of standing against hidden systems of influence and the courage it takes to speak when remaining silent would be easier.

Our conversation also turned toward young men and the growing influence of the manosphere. We explored why so many influencers—and increasingly prominent podcasters—are attracting young men who are searching for purpose, identity, and connection.

Yet one of the most important conclusions we reached was that the answer is not to disconnect from information altogether. Instead, it is to develop a critical ear. We can listen without surrendering our judgment. We can remain curious without becoming captive to someone else's certainty.

We also emphasized something equally important: reaching out to others. Neither one of us is a burden. Most people are quietly hoping someone will trust them enough to share what they are carrying. Genuine connection remains one of the greatest antidotes to isolation.

As I reflected on my conversation with Will, one idea kept surfacing.

Trust yourself.

During the episode, I shared that most people already know what they need to do. Whether it is making a difficult decision, pursuing something meaningful, or walking away from something that no longer serves them, the answer often already exists within us. Sometimes we simply need a word of encouragement—a reminder that courage is built one step at a time.

That message continued to reinforce itself throughout the week.

I found myself overwhelmed with gratitude for the life that has gradually unfolded before me. The path has rarely been obvious, and even today it is often shrouded in fog of self-doubt, fear, and shame. Yet every meaningful chapter of my life has emerged because I was willing to keep moving despite not seeing the entire road ahead.

Looking back, I realize those decisions were less about certainty than they were about trust.

Trust that God had placed wisdom within me.

Trust that I could learn from my mistakes.

Trust that taking one faithful step was enough.

As we continue trying to make sense of an increasingly chaotic world—and as countless influencers, commentators, and public figures compete to tell us what to believe—we cannot outsource our judgment. We should remain open to learning from others, but never surrender our ability to think critically or discern wisely.

The strongest communities are not built by people who all think the same. They are built by people who share common values while respecting different perspectives.

We have never accomplished anything worthwhile entirely on our own. We grow through companionship, honest conversations, and people who remind us who we are when we begin to forget.

Perhaps trusting yourself does not mean having all the answers.

Perhaps it simply means having enough courage to take the next step, while remaining open to learning from those who walk beside you.

You Shipped an AI Feature. Your Database Felt It.

When you add AI to your app, the data profile changes overnight. Every prompt, response, and user interaction becomes a timestamped event. That's not your app's usual row count.

Vanilla Postgres handles it until it doesn't. Query times creep up. Dashboard refreshes slow down. You start reaching for a second database or a data pipeline to offload the load.

TimescaleDB extends Postgres for exactly this. It doesn't replace what's working. It makes Postgres stay fast as AI-generated data piles up.

Hypertables partition your data automatically as volume grows. Hypercore compression cuts storage 10x. Continuous aggregates keep your dashboards live without re-querying everything. No pipeline. No second database. No migration.

Same Postgres. Same SQL. Just built to handle what AI features actually generate.
